Good morning. How are y'all this morning? And by doing all right, can y'all hear me and everybody hear me? Okay, great correct what you think about this hot weather? Thanks and thank the good old summertime is here. I can feel like it is here. I'm going to be reading to y'all from Luke chapter 5, verses 1 through 11. I'm already reading out of this common. English Bible is going to sound a little different like y'all were noticed. It's not going to be like the one you have in your bulletin but Let's see what the Lord has to say.
One day Jesus was standing beside the Sea of Galilee when the crowd pristine around him to hear God's word. Jesus saw two boats sitting by the lake. The fishermen had gone ashore and we're watching their net. Jesus boarded. One of the boats and the one that belongs to Simon Peter, then ask him to roll out a little distance from the shore to sit down and talk the crowds from the boat when he's finished speaking to the crowds. He said to Simon go out a little farther into the deep water, and drop your nets for a kick, Simon replied Master. We've worked hard all night and caught nothing but because you say so I'll drop my net. So he dropped the net and his catch was so huge. That is Nets were splitting. He's seen them for his Partners, in the other boat to come and help him. They feel their boat so full that they were about to sink two. Simon, Peter saw the catch, he fell. That Jesus is nice and said, leave me Lord for I am a sinner Peter. And those with him were overcome with amazement because of the number of fish, since I had caught James and John Zebedee, Sons were Simon's partners and they were amazed to. Jesus said to Simon, Don't Be Afraid from now on. You will be fishing for people as soon as they brought the boat to the shore, they left everything and follow Jesus. The since the reading of God's word in the people say I'm a man and now we'll do the affirmation of faith and I apologize. I forgot it last week. I believe that Jesus is the Christ. The son of the Living, God, and if y'all will join me in this morning's prayer,
A most gracious Heavenly Father, we come before you with such grateful hearts Lord for the many blessings that you give to each of us each. And every day you taught your disciples to cast a wide net, not for fish. But for people we ask that you, teach us how to fish make her fingers Nimble, so that we may handle Hearts and Hands gently make her minds and hearts quiet and patient while we wait for your word. Dear Lord, we ask that. You continue to bless his church and its congregation gathered here. This morning, we asked for travel. Mercies, I'm glad you're not here and bring them back, home safely. We also ask that you be with the names on our prayer list as well, as the ones that we hold dear in our heart. Give them comfort and Abiding Love during the difficult days ahead and always God always, hold them in the palm of your hand. Bless each of us with your steadfast love that we might live our lives life. Samples, you have called us to be increase our faith. So that we may not be afraid to drop our Nets and venture out into the deep Waters with you. We ask all this Lord in your most holy and precious name.
I think I'm staying right here because sometimes I might changed it. Good and sometimes not expect your phone, all glitter to search p***.
After 11. Starting with vs23.
for I received from the Lord, what I also passed on to you Lord Jesus on the night. He went to trade. Good bread. And when he hit, you broke it and said this is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. in the same way after supper, he took the cup saying this cup is the New Covenant in my blood Do this whenever you drink it in remembrance of me. Or whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim, the Lord's death until he comes. It's always been our tradition as Disciples of Christ to invite all who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior to join us. And we can use our community is number.
Did you ask your blessing on this Saturday?
Happy Father's Day.
Reprieve.
Good morning. How are you all doing? All right, thank you so much. I love that song. I love that song, love that there really is something about that name. Thank you so much. Hope you all are doing, all right, hope you had a great week. I had a good week, just been running around, like a little chicken with my head cut off. So, that's how you knew. Ya decided today that I have, we had Vacation Bible School in our church and I had 35 little kids running around, so they were excited to pay the little kids we were. So I'm glad it was a six place. So, but anyway, I would like for us to go to the Lord in prayer.
Dear God, May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight because you are our strength and Our Redeemer. Amen.
You may not know the name Charlie Taylor. I don't know if anybody knows the name, Charlie Taylor or not, but if you ask his friend they would say that. He was a nice guy, he was fairly quiet and he enjoyed a good cigar every once in awhile and he had the propensity for being mechanically inclined, some would even consider him a mechanical genius. Like many Geniuses he dropped out of school early because he was just bored just before he went to work for the Nebraska State Journal in their processing department. And you finally got a job in their bonding department because of his propensity for mechanics. After working there and number of years, he met two men who recruited him to be part of their company and I paid him $8 a week. Now back in the eighteen, hundreds that one along, why. But today I don't know if you passed a really good lunch or not for two or three people to 10 man who recruited him or guess who Orville and Wilbur Wright. They recruited him because of his mechanical abilities, they gave him the task of developing an engine that was lied enough and powerful enough to actually fly Charlie Taylor designed the engine. That the Wright brothers used on December, 17th 1903, to fly their plane, a hundred and twenty feet in the air. The thing that was unique about this plane was as I could actually steer it and it didn't crash. It didn't crash. So Charlie, Charlie Tyler's reputation and relationship with the Wright brothers changed. The course of history. Didn't it?
You know, we can go back and and see other defining moments in history and Trace them back to all the different encounters that that occurred. Can't we But you know, you'll never ever encounter a man who changed more lives than Jesus Christ. Over the last two thousand years, people have been have been encountering this man. For many of those, those people's their lives have never been the same when we became Christians. Allies were never the same after that. Were they talking about in my class this morning between the ones that were asking Sunday school class? This morning, we had way over a hundred and fifty years of being a Christian and my Sunday school class. Whenever you think about that, that that does change your life. Being a Christian does change your life. Over the last two thousand years. People have been encountering, this man, This Man Called Jesus. Today, I want to tell you a story of a man named Simon Peter, and his Encounter With Jesus Simon. Peter was a fisherman by trade. It was quite, he did. It was also what his family did and it was her family business, and they fished to see if y'all will give you a little history about the Sea of Galilee. It's the world's lowest fresh water light with a service of approximately 680. Ft below sea level is the maximum depth of 150 feet and it's roughly 13 miles long and 8 miles wide. I think you're saying, isn't it? The Sea of Galilee is completely encircled with a series of coves along the seashore, and it has a rather unique characteristic in that when you're standing on the seashore, talkin your boys, travels up the travels up, like you're in an Amphitheater, you know, if you go see Texas and Amarillo got them that you remember, it's in a little Amphitheater and you can really hear while
I'm a retired surgical nurse nurses. Most of y'all know and I got to go with, this is just for peace. When we went to Jerusalem, we got to go and do a lot of different sightseeing. And so we got to go to the Sea of Galilee and I was thinking of going to be late when we get there and guess what, there's sailboats and people stand behind their mugs, and all sorts of stuff. And, you know, this is, this is sacred. Why are we so? Yes, it was secret. But now it's just like, Possum, Kingdom or like Hera head. It's kind of puts things into perspective, I guess for me, as he heard this morning, Jesus was walking along the shoreline and he was being followed by a group of people. You should stop that there. Perhaps we could go to the edge of the shoreline and preach, but he found it, that didn't work, because I kept crowding up closer to me closer and closer to where were, you know that I couldn't, I couldn't hear him. So he decided it might be better if you went out into the water, just a little bit and one of those boats when it is fishermen's boats that you noticed up there on this sure, talking about fishermen's boats. Did you know that in 1986 would have been really drought areas? Are along the Sea of Galilee it without much rain. And so, it was a crew boat that they found some two thousand years old and they found it on the, in the sand, on the northwest side. And Studies have shown that the wood that they use their in the boat which was Oak and Cedar and the style of the boat in the size of the boat because it was 26 ft by 7 ft. It was a big enough for 415 man, that they felt like that. This boat was just like the boat that Simon. Peter have used that they found that buried in the sand, is it that? It was pretty cool. The buzz that Jesus picked out was, which boat on the feeders. But why did he pick his butt? You think that it could have been God's plan sit and think God has that plan on? When things like this happen in our lives, I tell my Sunday school class snow in Jay. And I talked about this, and in the CWS ladies, know, if I call it a godwink, there's nothing been coincidence. Was God. It's a godwink, you know, something to put something in your in front of you, so that you realize hide God, did this go ahead and pick Simon, Peter spoke So do you just had Simon Peter rolly rolly spelled out from the shoreline and he is his boat, as a Pulpit, which separated him from the, from the people along the shoreline. So he could preach and when you finish preaching, he tells Simon Peter. He said he had a little bit farther in the deep water, and cast your nets. And this commandment sounded really, really foolish to Simon Peter because it's based on that. He hadn't caught anything. When they says they're called Gil, we stayed there with. I have an A and has white on the top and weights on the bottom and like in Spain, I think and they paid out in the fish will swim into it and I actually. So if I just put it out there and the fish swim into it and then they pull it back up and that's how that's how they caught fish. That's what they were called. Gil Fishers.
And so anyway, he was thinking, you know, I've done this all night. We haven't caught anything, imagine cast Finance again, he's probably was thinking, look, I'm the fisherman and you your Jesus of Nazareth you're just a carpenter. What do you know? Not only was Simon Peter official, we have reason to believe he was a pretty good so we know that he had been on the Sea of Galilee and then he knew and understood fish, he knew their habit, he knew when they, when the fish and the places to fish out here, no matter what you do, you're not going to come and they're not going to buy your fish all night. But He said, okay, he dropped his ego and he got his boat and he got his men. Took his exhausted body out to that to that water and follow. Jesus command to cast his net, he didn't know what was going to happen and you didn't understand why Jesus was asking to do this all in. Who was it Jesus today. And besides, every fisherman New Moon day was not the best time to fish anyway, because it was hot and all the fish were going or not. They were they were but he followed his command any. Why don't we plans for our lives that one besides, are you really serious? You really want me to do this. Really, really do you know, we in turn we like to make excuses. Don't lie. Like I'm too tired. I'm too worn out. I've had a bad day. I don't have the resources, I don't have the money, I can't do this. I'm not smart enough. We do that. Don't we would do that. We're proud of what will happen if we follow God's Direction. We struggle going out into the deep Waters because we don't know what's out there doing. And we're afraid to put our trust in Jesus, aren't we? We lack that faith in Jesus and because we fear the unknown, and we fear making a mistake, that one, we fear, making this time, Because we believe that our plans are plans that we have for our life or so much better than what Jesus has planned for us to do. Because basically, we become a very narcissistic Society. A lot of people think here I am, and here is the world. Not the way it is. Just a thought he knew more about more than Jesus and he thought that this little trip into the deep Waters was going to be a total waste of time. We think that to you don't, we we think it's going to be a total waste of time, but if we can see you post his feelings aside and he goes out, and that's what Jesus says. And if he puts his net sap, what happens. He feels his new tub and you looked at these gnats, fill up with it so much. So that is both starts to sink and he calls his friends. Hey y'all, come on and bring your Bose hear some more fish. Dropped your net and they do the same thing and then they can't fill up in the boats, fill up the laziest. And he turns around and he realizes he realizes that through all of his weaknesses and through all of his insecurities, he falls at Jesus feet. Go away from my Lord. Go away for. I am a sinner. But Jesus has no, no, we should never be afraid to acknowledge, and confess her Witnesses. Should we? We shouldn't we should never be too proud to acknowledge when we have found ourselves. And when we have failed, God, instead of asking God to go away, we should ask God to come closer and be a part of our lives and not us trying to do everything for ourselves because we can't, we can't, he is in there. He is there to help us He had this encounter with you sister cuz he obey the commands of Jesus Simon, Peter chose to obey. Jesus and his life was never the same. Jesus was well aware of his shortcoming as he is with all of us yet. He reassured him by saying, what don't be afraid. Don't Be Afraid from now on. I will make you Fishers of Men. So now I ask you what are the qualities of a good fisherman? You got to love it. You got to love it is either in the cold of the winter fishing in the cold water. You got to love it, right? Good fishermen are experienced. The ones that don't fish very much. They're not very good. Are they the ones that do fish a lot? They're really good. What baits to use. What rods do you use? Where the fish are biting, right? The story. There were a couple of men that had gone fishing for the very first time in their life and they had went to Academy and then bought their the rods and reels. And then they went to the life and they rented the boat and I get out into the, into the light and they know just enough to be dangerous, but they know how to face their line. So they bite on hooks and the cats out and all the sudden I start getting all these fish and there's just pulling up the boat and every time they threw that lighter and lighter and lighter, and they said, well, we're going to have to call in to die. You know. We're going to head to call her today and get this boat back because you're going to expect it back and saw one of the men went over and started, pull up the anchor. When you look around, his friend was such a big rat in the middle of the boat in Houston.
His friend said, why are you doing that? We might not get the same boat. I mean, you know, I have patients, do you have to be patient and wait for those fish? Don't you? So now I ask you what are the qualities of a fisherman of men? The First Quality is attitude, we have to have the right attitude, we have to have an infectious attitude, a contagious attitude, a positive attitude, you have to love crashed, you have to show that love to others, don't you? The second part is you don't need any equipment. Do you need a fancy Rod or reel for a boat or anything for you to show someone price? You just have to show them that love that compassion, that caring for someone and the certain qualities that you have to know if your body on. Don't you? You know, their time, some people are just hungry, they're just hungry for the teachings of Christ, and we need to feed their souls, don't we? We need to do that, not only by our works, but also, by our actions, The last quality is the key. The more we venture out into the deep Waters with Jesus, we learn to become like the fishermen Jesus called us to be. We should always strive to make others feel like they are important. That their lives matter and that you truly care about them. You know, Maya Angelou and I call you told her numerous times she always said that people won't remember your name, they won't remember what you did or what they're going to remember is how you made them feel. How you made them for you? Think about it? When summer Rob, and I went on vacation to Red River, New Mexico and we stay in a condo in the condo butted right up to the little. Like, you know, that little string that goes right through Red River. And so, are you being real hot? And it was a drought, and I didn't have much water in the Stream. So they decided they didn't have a lot of fish eyes are, but they decide to stay with stocks that scream. So people that were, they are, would have something to catch. And so they, they stock the stream with fresh trout. And so as luck would have it, it kind of Gully washer and just flooded dream. I mean, just let it go to the bank. And so, we went out and looked at the stream after that rain, quit. And there was like a sandbar and then string. Well, all the new fish that they had thrown out there, all the traffic has stopped with rough on The Sandbar. They hadn't gotten down into the Stream. So Robin on the rest of the people walked along the bank, picked up those fish and put them out in the string so that they can. Go ahead and swim on and not staying up here on this and, you know, The Sandbar and struggle, you know, that's what God does for each. One of us, doesn't it? He picks us up when we're struggling and then you gently places this into this dream that we call our life, so that we can become Fishers of Men and showing God's love to others, Simon. Peter had just had the greatest day of all fishing and he and his friend and brother knew that they wouldn't have to work for an entire year. But after thinking about it they realize that Jesus has had called him to fish for more than just fish. Jason, take all them to be disciples and to be Fishers of Men so they left behind everything and follow Jesus Jesus was calling them to be his disciple. And I answered his call with a resounding. Yes, Here I Am Lord. Ironically some two thousand years after this event with Simon Peter, the Sea of Galilee at the Sea of Galilee things haven't really changed. It all has none. Jesus still wants us to put out our net that are filled with our words and our regrets, and our fears and to put down everything that we hold dear and do what venture out into the deep Waters with him because we like Simon Peter should realize that there is nothing. There is nothing in this entire world that will ever compare to Walking With Jesus Christ. A wise man. Once said, when we fish for fish, we take him out of a beautiful life. And put them into death, but when we fish for men, we take them out of Des and we put them into a beautiful life. My question for you this morning is are you willing to abandon everything that you hold dear, and cast your nets into the deep Waters and introduces call to come? And follow me? If you Dave I guarantee he'll make you a fisherman of men to God. Be the glory for it. Five, just a closer walk with thee.
I just want to tell you that, I hope that that you've learned just a little bit this morning about that disciple named Simon Peter and then he had caught that record number of fish but they had found nothing in this entire world that would compare to being a disciple was Jesus Christ. He became one of the greatest fisherman in the world. It's all because when Jesus said, come and follow me, Simon Peter said Here, I Am Lord, send me. We should all be willing to answer that call with. Yes, Here I Am, Lord, send me now, I know you received this benediction, may the Lord bless and keep you may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you may the Lord lift his face toward you and give you peace.
